Axlr8.com

Built around software first developed more than three decades ago, Axlr8.com Limited is now set for its next stage following a successful sale. Based in Berkshire, the company develops highly customisable software systems used across the staffing, government and financial brokerage sectors.

Founded in 1993 by husband-and-wife team Evan and Helen Marengo, the business was established alongside the creation of its in-house Secure Marketing Systems platform, which became the foundation of a long-standing and loyal client base.

The adaptability of the software and the quality of its customer relationships generated strong market interest, resulting in 50 enquiries, nine meetings and ultimately a successful outcome for the shareholders.

The sale was led by Deal Executive Ollie Edwards, who commented:

“With it being a software business, there was strong interest from the market due to the quality of the client base and the flexibility of the systems. We made adjustments throughout the transaction to reflect our clients’ preferences and ultimately secured a more favourable deal than they had initially hoped for.”

Ollie also highlighted the contribution of the wider Knightsbridge team, crediting the administration team for processing the volume of NDAs, alongside the support team for coordinating meetings throughout the transaction.

The buyer, Dorset-based SMExpand, was founded in 2017 by Andrew Birrell and operates as a business consultancy and technology partner helping SMEs streamline their operations. The acquisition represents a strong fit for the group, adding an established software platform and reputable client portfolio to its existing capabilities.

Reflecting on the deal, Ollie added:

“It was an enjoyable transaction to be part of and great relationships were built throughout. The speed of the completion was particularly pleasing, with the deal agreed just a month beforehand. Most importantly, it allows Evan and Helen to retire after many years building the business.”

The Knightsbridge team wishes Evan and Helen a long and happy retirement, and every success to both businesses.
