Essex Coast Physio
Essex Coast Physio had spent its first few years building a clinic around quicker access to treatment without compromising patient care. By the time it came to market, the Southend-on-Sea practice offered same-day appointments, had an experienced team in place and used systems designed to keep enquiries and day-to-day operations moving efficiently.
Incorporated in 2022 and led by Ben Croxford, the business developed quickly. It secured an NHS contract early on, expanded its team and premises in 2023 and continued to grow its private patient caseload as demand increased.
The clinic specialises in musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and neurological physiotherapy, while also offering home visits for patients unable to attend in person. Intelligent triaging and clinician matching helped maintain appointment availability and reduce unnecessary delays.
That approach helped Essex Coast Physio build a strong local reputation, high levels of repeat custom and a five-star Google rating. The clinic had also become the highest-rated and most-reviewed physiotherapy practice in Southend-on-Sea.
A practice manager oversaw the day-to-day running of the business, supported by an experienced team. Automated marketing and lead-generation systems also helped maintain a regular flow of enquiries, reducing the need for close director involvement.
That setup suited Axial Health’s buy-and-build strategy across musculoskeletal healthcare. The acquisition gives the buyer an established private clinic with staff, proven systems and a strong local reputation already in place.
The opportunity generated five meetings and two offers before terms were agreed. Associate Director Leanne Boulding led the transaction, with Joe Bulle representing the opportunity.
The sale allows Ben to focus more on family life and other entrepreneurial interests, while placing Essex Coast Physio with a buyer looking to build a wider group of MSK clinics.
