Half Hitch Gin

Camden Market’s historic links to gin-making have come full circle, with Half Hitch Gin now entering a new phase under fresh ownership.

Founded in 2014 by former Bacardi executive Mark Holdsworth, the brand was created to revive a forgotten part of Camden Lock’s trading history through a modern craft gin business centred on production, retail and customer experience. Operating from its own micro-distillery within the market itself, Half Hitch combined direct-to-consumer sales with gin-making sessions and e-commerce, helping carve out a distinctive place within London’s premium spirits scene.

Its Earl Grey Tea Gin became the standout product within the range, recognised for a botanical profile blending black tea, bergamot, hay, wood and pepper. Alongside industry awards and international trademark registrations, the business secured retail listings, distribution agreements and growing visibility through its Camden Market base, where heavy tourist footfall helped drive both product sales and broader brand awareness.

The company also expanded beyond traditional retail through its gin school experiences, giving visitors the opportunity to create bespoke blends inside the working distillery. Its profile continued to grow through hospitality relationships and appearances at events hosted within royal residences including Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and St James’s Palace.

With Mark deciding to pursue a new direction outside the business, Half Hitch Gin was brought to market. Represented by Regional Commercial Director Martin Baars and led by Operations Manager Leanne Boulding, the process generated strong engagement, resulting in 12 meetings and three offers before a buyer was selected.

The acquirer, Ginagain Spirits, identified the opportunity as a strong fit alongside its existing portfolio. Founded by Rick Allen, the London-based business has built its own following around small-batch gin production inspired by Californian citrus flavours, making the addition of Half Hitch a natural extension within the premium spirits market.

Rather than moving into a completely different type of group, the brand remains in the hands of an independent operator already active within the same space — creating continuity for the business while providing scope to build further on Half Hitch Gin’s reputation, trademarks and customer following.

The Knightsbridge team wishes Mark all the best in his future ventures, and every success to Ginagain Spirits as it develops the brand further.
