How Lean Competency Services Business Services Was Sold to Reinvigoration | Case Study

A long-established connection between the two companies has culminated with Reinvigoration Ltd acquiring Lean Competency Services (LCS) in a deal overseen by Jennifer Morley, Knightsbridge Commercial Executive.
The relationship Reinvigoration shares with LCS dates back to 2006, when Reinvigoration’s Chris Dando sat a Lean Service Operations degree at Cardiff University. It was on this course where Chris met his company’s co-founder, Ryan King.
LCS is an internationally recognised program, originally developed in 2005 by the Lean Enterprise Research Centre (LERC) at Cardiff University, which has played a significant role in helping its clients to adopt lean principles through its lean qualification framework.
Since its inception, Reinvigoration has grown to become a leading operations transformation consultancy. Its aim is to empower organisations and individuals with the tools and knowledge to start adopting lean thinking into their work activities to help drive consistent improvement.
The LCS has received a lot of traction over the past decade, and with Chris’ prior pre-established understanding of lean thinking appreciation of the way LCS operates, he saw a fantastic opportunity for an acquisition that could support his current operation.
The original owner, Simon Elias, approached Knightsbridge over the sale of the business to help facilitate his retirement plans. Chris aims to build on Simon’s achievements, accelerating growth even further through continued support and investment.
Chris Dando stated: “It’s safe to say the learning experience we were really fortunate to have not only changed our thinking but sowed the seeds for a different type of consultancy, and Reinvigoration was born a number of years later.”
“This acquisition represents a pivotal moment in our commitment to empowering organisations with the tools and knowledge to foster lean thinking, drive continuous improvement and achieve operational excellence.”
Reinvigoration will also benefit from LCS’s international client base, with the immediate priority of managing a smooth transition for these clients before focusing on the strategic direction for the business. The intention is to keep the two core businesses operating separately, with a new innovative leadership team to help drive LCS into the future.
Chris added: “I would like to thank LCS’s departing director, Simon Elias, for his hard work over the last decade in growing the LCS brand. Simon has built a great business and we’re really looking forward to carrying the torch of his legacy forward.
“To my colleagues at Cardiff University, thank you for sharing our vision for a bigger future for the LCS. We’re relishing the opportunity to build on Simon’s great foundations and significantly growing the LCS organisation globally over the coming decade.”
Jennifer Morley commented: “The sale was negotiated and completed smoothly with no major hiccups.”
