The UK is at the forefront of the global shift toward renewable energy, aiming for a fully clean and sustainable energy system by 2035. Investment in renewables is transforming the energy landscape, driving innovation in wind, solar, and hydropower. This shift tackles climate change, creates jobs, and strengthens long-term energy security.
Did you know? In 2024, renewables accounted for over 50% of the UK’s electricity for the first time, helping the country achieve its cleanest electricity year ever, largely generated from low-carbon sources (58%).
Hydropower is a key part of this transition. Pumped storage provides over 90% of stored energy, and many schemes operate efficiently even after a century. Its reliability makes it an attractive investment, as seen with the sale of Daneriver Hydropower Services, a husband-and-wife owned business that attracted multiple bidders before being acquired by WT Energy.
Knightsbridge has also supported growth in other renewable technologies, with the sale of Steve Duckworth Electrical. The business delivers innovative solutions for domestic and commercial clients, including solar PV systems, Tesla Powerwalls, and air-source heat pumps, while also maintaining and repairing these installations.
Its sale to SAFE Group enables the buyer to expand into the Green Energy market. Founder and Managing Director Mike Tobin commented: “Following this acquisition, our renewable energy services have now been extended, strengthening our position in this evolving market.”
These recent Knightsbridge deals highlight the impact of strategic investment on the UK’s renewable sector, and generated highly substantial fees for our clients. Both sales were led by Jennifer Morley, Knightsbridge Senior Deal Executive, who shared her thoughts:
“As a team member at Knightsbridge, I play an active role in shaping and managing these renewable energy deals from start to finish. It’s incredibly rewarding to work closely with clients and partners to navigate complex transactions that support clean, sustainable energy projects.”
These transactions demonstrate Knightsbridge’s commitment to both delivering maximum value for our clients and the wider clean energy transition. By connecting ambitious businesses with strategic investors, we help to unlock growth opportunities and support the nation’s Net Zero journey.
