What is the first steps you take when a business owner approaches you to sell their business?
When a new client engages our services, I begin by reviewing the insights provided by the Regional Commercial Director. From there, I schedule an introductory call with the client to establish a strong foundation for our working relationship. This conversation is essential for understanding their reasons for selling, their expectations, and the key details of their business. It’s also an opportunity to outline the process ahead and address any initial questions or concerns.
What are the key responsibilities involved in preparing a business for sale, and what advice do you offer business owners planning to exit?
We encourage our clients to remain open to various possibilities when coming to market. Deals can take many forms, and our goal is to present multiple, tailored proposals for their consideration.
From crafting compelling advertisements to attract maximum interest to advising on what constitutes an attractive offer, we guide clients through every stage. We highlight the pros and cons of each deal, assess potential risks, and connect them with trusted professional advisers – such as solicitors and tax experts – to ensure informed decision making.
How do you ensure confidentiality during the sale process?
Confidentiality is paramount. We require buyers to sign robust Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA) and, in some cases, seek client approval for each inquiry. This ensures transparency and provides clients with peace of mind, knowing that all potential buyers are bound by strict confidentiality agreements.
What strategies do you use to help business owners maximise the value of their business?
We focus on showcasing the unique selling points of the business while addressing any undervalued aspects of offers. By negotiating to mitigate risks and highlighting the business’ strengths, we aim to secure the best possible terms for our clients.
What role do you play in negotiations, and how do you ensure that both parties are satisfied?
My role is pivotal in achieving a balanced outcome. While I advocate for and support the seller, I maintain an honest and fair approach to negotiations. The ultimate goal is to reach a mutual agreement that satisfies both parties and paves the way for a successful deal.
How do you ensure the sale process remains transparent and smooth for both parties?
Clear communication is key. We establish open lines of communication, often using shared email chains to keep all parties informed of progress. Regular updates and early resolution of issues help maintain momentum and ensure a seamless transaction. This enables to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
What specific qualifications or experience do you have in helping businesses sell, and how does that benefit the seller?
With over 16 years of experience in the M&A industry, I’ve handled a diverse range of deals across various sizes and sectors. While I don’t hold specific qualifications, my extensive experience equips me to anticipate challenges, navigate complex negotiations, and guide sellers towards positive outcomes.
What experience do you have with Knightsbridge?
Since joining Knightsbridge in 2008, I’ve gained invaluable experience across various roles, starting with buyer liaison and progressing into the deal team. Over the past decade, I’ve honed my skills in delivering a cradle-to-grave service for clients.
